Study data were collected and managed using REDCap electronic data capture tools hosted at University of Iowa.1 REDCap (Research Electronic Data Capture) is a secure, web-based application designed to support data capture for research studies, providing 1)
an intuitive interface for validated data entry; 2) audit trails for tracking data manipulation and export procedures; 3) automated export procedures for seamless data downloads to common statistical packages; and 4) procedures for importing data from external
sources.

New Feature: Survey-specific Email Invitation Fields |
|
The REDCap Team
This is a new option on the Survey Settings page that can be enabled for any given survey, in which a user may designate an email field for sending survey invitations for that survey only.
The email field being utilized for the survey can exist on any instrument in the project, and you may use a different email field on each survey. You may also use the same email field for multiple surveys.
This feature is similar to the project-level email invitation field except that it is employed only for the survey where it has been enabled. This allows users to have data entry workflows that require multiple surveys where the participant is different for
each survey. Using this feature, multiple people can be emailed a survey invitation, after which all the survey data they enter goes into the same record in the project.

New External Module: Form Render Skip Logic |
|
The REDCap Team
This module hides and shows instruments based on the value of a single field on a single form - i.e. a branching logic for instruments.
An example use case for this tool is to facilitate a data entry workflow to a specific diagnosis e.g. brain injury, but the tool is generalized to support the hiding (and showing) of any number of forms based on the field value on one form.
You can register for any of our training sessions here.

New Pilot: Text Messaging and Voice Calls for REDCap Surveys |
|
The REDCap Team
University of Iowa REDCap team is now piloting new functionality that allows REDCap to send surveys via text message (SMS) and Voice calls. REDCap's Twilio module enables a research study to make and receive voice calls and SMS text messages, both from and
to survey respondents.
- This module uses a third-party web service named Twilio.
- There is a cost associated with the Twilio service.
- If you are interested in learning more about this service please contact

Coming Summer 2018 New External Module: MyCap – Turn your REDCap Survey/Instrument into a Mobile APP |
|
The REDCap Team
MyCap makes it easy for researchers to capture participant/patient reported outcomes using mobile devices.
MyCap leverages REDCap, ResearchKit, and ResearchStack to capture participant/patient reported outcomes via mobile devices. REDCap is used to define tasks/instruments/surveys to be completed by participants. MyCap translates REDCap task metadata into a structure
compatible with ResearchKit and ResearchStack. When a project participant completes a task, MyCap converts the results into a format compatible with REDCap before synchronizing back to the REDCap project.
Customize the MyCap app interface to fit the specific needs for your research project using our web-based manager.
Features:
- add project participants
- create tasks/surveys using REDCap
- create active tasks
- schedule when and how often tasks should appear
- create information screens
- Participant data is synchronized to your REDCap project.
Anticipated release:
- iOS Summer 2018,
- Android end of 2018.
