Study data were collected and managed using REDCap electronic data capture tools hosted at University of Iowa.1
REDCap (Research Electronic Data Capture) is a secure, web-based application designed to support data capture for research studies, providing 1) an intuitive interface for validated data entry; 2) audit trails for tracking data manipulation and export procedures;
3) automated export procedures for seamless data downloads to common statistical packages; and 4) procedures for importing data from external sources.

MyCap now available for Android devices
|
|
The REDCap Team
Turn your REDCap Survey/Instrument into a Mobile APP. MyCap makes it easy for researchers to capture participant/patient reported outcomes using mobile devices.
MyCap leverages REDCap, ResearchKit, and ResearchStack to capture participant/patient reported outcomes via mobile devices. REDCap is used to define tasks/instruments/surveys to be completed by participants. MyCap translates REDCap task metadata into a structure
compatible with ResearchKit and ResearchStack. When a project participant completes a task, MyCap converts the results into a format compatible with REDCap before synchronizing back to the REDCap project.
The University of Iowa REDCap Team has a demo MyCap Sandbox available for University of Iowa research teams to test out and review the functionality available in MyCap.
Sign up to test MyCap.

Improvement: Change to New Project Requests
|
|
The REDCap Team
You may now request a new project by logging into REDCap and clicking "New Project" in the main navigation bar. Creating a project via this page will allow you to define the title, project purpose, and select a template to start with (either from the list of
built-in templates or you can upload your own). A member of the REDCap Team will still need to approve it manually, but we no longer require an I-CART request to be submitted beforehand.
If your project is associated with an IRB number, please select "Research" as the purpose and fill out all the additional information. It is very important that our team is able to track this information (especially since it is no longer captured in I-CART).

New feature: The "REDCaptcha" external module was integrated into REDCap |
|
The REDCap Team
This feature allows users to utilize the Google reCAPTCHA functionality to help protect public surveys from abuse from “bots”, which are automated software programs that might enter trash data into surveys. Users will then be able to choose to enable the Google
reCAPTCHA functionality on the Public Survey page in their project, after which the public survey will display the reCAPTCHA checkbox and “I’m not a robot” text on a survey page prior to allowing the participant to view the public survey. This feature is not
employed on any private survey links because those are unique to a record and thus would never be made publicly available like a public survey link would.
Note: A survey participant will never have to pass the reCAPTCHA test more than once per day on a given device/computer.
|
New feature: The "Sticky Matrix Header" external module was integrated into REDCap |
|
The REDCap Team
This feature will cause matrix headers to float and stick to the top of a page on either a survey or data entry form so that the matrix headers are always visible, which is helpful for matrices with many rows. If this external module was already enabled on
the REDCap installation, it will automatically be disabled during the upgrade process to prevent any possible conflicts.
|
Feature improvement: Secondary unique field functionality |
|
The REDCap Team
New options added to Secondary Unique Field functionality - In the "Additional Customizations" popup on the Project Setup page, users may now choose to optionally display the Secondary Unique Field's value in conjunction to displaying a record name on various
project pages (in previous versions it was always displayed regardless). If left unchecked, the uniqueness of the value will still be checked during data entry or import, but the Secondary Unique Field's value will not be displayed next to the record name
anywhere (e.g., in record lists, record status dashboards, reports). A second option has also been added that dictates whether or not the field label of the Secondary Unique Field will be displayed next to the value (if the value is set to be displayed next
to a record name).
|
Improvement: Import and export automatic survey invitations |
|
The REDCap Team
In the online designer, users can now import and export automatic surveys invitations via .csv files.
