Hello Folks out there in the organ network,

Here's my submission for the 'ideal' residence contraption
I'd like some feedback on the idea - good, bad, additions, deletions etc.

An idea for a residence organ:

The idea has been the back of my mind for about three or four
years. It is based on modular construction starting with a Moller
Artiste type 3 ranker and my great fortunate circumstances that
allow me 24 hour access to a 162 instrument

Yes!, It's a 4 manual 17-19 ranker with 3 swell boxes maybe four if
you enclose the great. A little giant color machine. It's purpose
is to allow you to practice symphonic stuff. The swell & choir are
virtual duplicates so that you can use the same 5 ranks for both
until you can afford to get the next set of modular units. There
is LOTS of 8 foot. You could go nutszo add another 2 rank chest
and call it a positif. Again this is for practice purposes -you
get to use swell boxes to practice cross fading, lots of color
combos and have lots of knobs to pull. I'd like all the celestes
to it low 'c' and possibly use electronic things for the pedal.
The Solo plays a triple role in this design..As itself, an
extension of the pedal organ and the Great organ.. The solo reeds
are separate draws on the great so they act as the great reed
chorus (does this sound familiar) The French horn also plays a
role on the pedal as a 'diapason-like' sound which, I would
personally use to help give 'more independent' quality on the pedal
during full ensemble sounds. It also functions as its usual solo
reed. There are no mixtures..

The building blocks for this design consists of 2 & 3 rank chests,
spacings would allow you to change diapasons with reeds and flutes
with strings by changing the rack boards - the topboards would be
drilled for 'average' exchange of ranks - like clearances for reed
bells & fat diapason. The specific design is very loose and folks
can fill in their favorite sounds. The two un enclosed chests
(great & pedal 2 rankers) can be used as facades/casework.

Great 2 rank chest: 1) Diapason 8,4,2 (possibly tc 8')
                    2) Flute 8,4,2

Swell 3 rank 1) String 8,4,2
                    2) Flute 8,4,2
                    3) Reed 8,4 (trumpet)
          2 rank 1) String Celeste 8,4
                    2) Diapason 8,4,2 (or vox?)

Choir 3 ranks 1) String 8,4,2
                    2) Flute 8,4,2
                    3) Reed 8,4 (clarinet)
          2 ranks 1) Flute Celeste 8,4
                    2) Diapason 8,4,2,1 or reed stop

Solo 3 ranks 1) Diapason (Sorta Gambe)
                    2) Flute (Doppel)
                    3) Solo Reed (Tuba)
          2 ranks 1) Celeste (Diapason &/or Flute)
                    2) Color Solo Reed (French Horn)

Pedal 2 ranks 1) Flute (Bourdon)
                    2) Diapason

It plays out in my mind as follows:

Great:

16 Bourdon
8 Open Diapason
     Gambe diapason (solo)
     Bourdon
     Doppel (solo)
4 Octave
     Gambe diapason (solo)
     Bourdon
2-2/3 bourdon
2 Super Octave
     Bourdon
Reeds from the solo
16 Tuba
8 Tuba
     French Horn
4 Tuba

Swell & choir

16 Flute or string
8 Diapason
     Flute
     string
     celeste - flute or string
4 diapason
     flute
     string - maybe
     celeste - maybe
2-2/3 flute
2 diapason
     flute
other flute or diapason mutations
reeds at 16,8,4

Solo

8 Diapason
     Doppel
     Celeste
4 diapason
     Doppel
     Celeste
2-2/3
2 diapsaon
     flute
1-3/5
other mutations as desired
Tuba 16,8,4
Horn 16,8,4

Pedal

Dedicated 2 ranks totally unified
Most Solo stuff to pedal at 8 & 4 maybe 2 for some
If electronic bass is used one could bring down selected enclosed
manual stops to the pedal at 16 & 8 like a pipe organ manufacturer
used to do alot of times.

Take care
