"86" is an old restaurant /food worker terminology for being out of a
particular menu item.
I recall from my first job after high school in a diner (yes, one which was
an old railroad car), and when the waitress would order up something which
was out, you'd hear an "86 on -----" yelled back from the cook.
What it may mean in your son's friends' usage is still up to conjecture...
