You bring back memories, Peter.
The instrument I just added split keys to was made for a smoker. A few months after delivery she had the nerve to ask me why it didn't smell the way it did new. I was perhaps overly abrasive to say "Because you smoke in the room with it."
That may have increased her desire to return it. If so I am glad, although I do think dissatisfaction with the sound was genuine.
"Glad" because I have it now, and like it very much today. Not glad that it came out less than thrilling to both me and the client at the time.
