I wonder if anyone might wish to comment about one of the instruments
that Tagliavini plays on this CD, a two-manual instrument one of whose
manuals is hooked up to harpsichord jacks, the other of which is hooked
up to a Cristofori-type piano mechanism. Is anyone aware of any
information about how such instruments were actually used? Rather than
play it either as a harpsichord or as a fortepiano, Tagliavini
alternates the registers and even combines the registers at the same
time, effects that I find distinctly unpleasant (not simply because of
unfamiliarity with the sound but also because the piano just seems dull
beside the brilliance of the harpsichord).
