Keith,
American Piano Supply in Clifton, NJ, doesn't really have
too many things of interest to harpsichordists. They are primarily
wholesalers to piano manufacturers and to individual piano
technicians. They do have brass and steel wire in all available
sizes, but the smallest quantity they sell is a quarter pound
(which will make a good many strings, unless you have an unusually
large harpsichord!). They also have tuning hammers ("T" and
"gooseneck"), 0.198" tuning pins (blued & nickel plated) in two
lengths, and a couple of books (including the English version of
H.A. Kellner's "The Tuning of My Harpsichord"). As far as I know,
they do not offer the other harpsichord items (jacks, etc.) which
were formerly carried by Tuner's Supply (APSCO purchased much of
what remained of that venerable Boston firm a few years ago).

If your needs are for the maintenance of one or two instruments, you
would probably be better served by contacting Hubbard Harpsichords,
since they brought out a parts list a couple of years ago offering
all sorts of material to individual owners (not only owners of their
instruments). They gather material from various sources, and they
aren't trying to sell in wholesale quantities. They offer, among
other things, the red brass wire that sounds so wonderful in the
low bass of a French double, and they will even make certain
individual parts to order. Address for parts list:
31 Union Ave., Sudbury, MA, 01776. Phone: 508-443-3417.
