Dear List,
I think that I know the answers to the questions that Richard Mix posed
concerning temperaments in use in Austria before 1800, but I'm no expert on
this subject. It may take awhile to get a definitive answer, but I have
forwarded Richard's questions to a friend of mine in Austria, Gustav Auzinger,
who would know the answers for sure. Gustav may be away from home at the
moment, but I'm sure that he'll reply to my message, and I'll forward a
translation to the list when I receive it. Gustav is responsible for
overseeing the restoration and maintenance of all the historic organs in his
region in Upper Austria, near Linz. His knowledge of this subject is second to
none, and I'm sure that he will be able to answer Richard's questions in due
course.
Stay tuned!
