The Morton chests that require the pipes to be removed to service the action
is the kind of chest that originally led Austin to invent the walk-in
Universal windchest. The story is that he was having a hard time adjusting
the action on a chest that - like the Morton pit chest - had to have the
pipes removed to do the adjustment, and that this frustration led to his
invention we know as the Universal windchest.
