I've never twisted strings vertically before but it strikes me as
awkward.  I just use a nail in a board clamped to the workbench at
waist height so I twist horizontally.  Be that as it may, the main
reason I wanted to reply was to recommend you tape your fingers before
starting on a significant stringing session or they become bruised
mush after a while, especially with smaller wire.  Good music in the
background helps with the mind numbingly boring task of installing a
lots of strings as well...
