Thanks lots.  The nail idea is a suggestion after my own heart!  I have no
idea about the wire gauge, that's been one of my problems.  Actually, I play
harpsichord and wasn't much interested in clavichord until I found this poor
old thing VERY cheap and thought it would be dandy for practice if I could
resurrect it.  Thanks again, this was really helpful.
