Never should have happened; it's more of a situational
asceticism (which conveniently ignores the differences
between Spanish and Italian instruments) than a historically
justifiable practice. Scarlatti had a huge harem of
accessible instruments, Flemish as well as southern
European, plus there was that English publication. Not to
say that something like a Taskin suits it very well, and
there is much to be learned from playing the stuff on an
Italian, but presumably the same could be said for playing
it on a Flemish instrument. Or an Antunes piano.

best,
 Stuart
