consistent even into the late 19th c, so this device for training
canaries has implications for the the way we perform Berlioz and Bizet
too. For example the chidren's chorus in Carmen is generally played at
about a quarter the speed it should be played at.
A recent performance of Berlioz' Requiem by 1000 trained canaries
lasted all of 8 minutes. But 8 minutes of pure transcendence for the
real connaisseurs let me tell you!
