Again: I have a vague sense of similar traits and tendencies. But, as
Hamlet says, "Nothing is good or bad but thinking makes it so," or
something like that. One might say that everything is good in the
appropriate context. As far as harpsichords go, I prefer the Rose wire, but
I like Lutz's stuff just as well, probably better, and it's LOTS cheaper
and I can get it in about two days instead of two months. I think, by the
way, that Lutz might be unduly cautious in his scaling recommendations. My
new Italian has a scale of around 11 3/8" (‰289mm) at 415, and Lutz's stuff
is working just fine.
But as I said, I'm pulling all the nice polite wire off the clavichords,
replacing with stock Zuckermann brass, and finding it a significant
improvement (to my taste). This move, which at first seemed odd to me, was
suggested to me by Richard Troeger, who told me he preferred Rose brass on
his harpsichord(s) and Zuckermann on his clavichords.
