Did we discuss this before? If so I apologise.

Some renowned writers (I can think of a few) are publishing all their "old"
papers in Academia.edu: I have recently seen that one of them has reached a
record of 120 published papers now fully available there! 

Somebody told me that the "consensus" is that, after a printed article has
been delivered to magazine subscribers, the author should wait at least ONE
FULL YEAR year before uploading it to the web. This looks to me as a
sensible policy.

I also read online, a few months ago, that of course publishers are not
happy with their articles being shown for free in Academia.edu, but that
most of them have decided not to intervene. Further, if they did, they
should make matters clear with copyright to the authors: it appears that so
far only Elsevier has in public warned writers that they cannot publish on
their own any copy of their papers.

If anybody has any updates on the above I guess we all would be very glad to
know.
