For what it's worth: when I spoke with Cornelis Verboom (he painted a lot of harpsichords) he had the following to say about the original decorations:

1) The quality of the "faux marble" on the originals was not all that good. More of a hasty job (sic.)
2) The quality of the motto's painted on the lid were not all those you'll expect of someone using a computer to print TrueType fonts on a sheet of paper and then copying them to the lid. In comparison they look more like done by an "amateur" (but a good amateur).

Aren't we lucky that the quality of the paint job doesn't affect the tonal quality of the instrument 😊
