Hi David,

Pure solid gold has a fixed colour, but as to the colour of gold leaf, it’s hugely variable, as mentioned. While reflecting on this I came across a sets of colour charts for gold leaf, not something one would normally think of:

Quite a wide variation in shades available.

For gold leaf, one twenty cent coin (what equivalent size that is in the US I don’t know) will allowing beating out to cover an area of about one tennis court. Extraordinary metal.
