I'm living with a Mietke copy that's maybetwo years old, belonging to
Alan Curtis. Very nice instrument.  Sounds and feels nothing like the
Dowd Skowronecks, of which I have known three.  Like a lot of
Skowroneck's instruments, it projects quite amazingly.
 
A couple of years back I had a phone call from a man who said that he
had met a harpsichord maker in Germany in the mid-seventies at a
cocktail party, and had been so intrigued he had given the man a check
to place his name on his waiting list, which, he was informed, was
lengthy.  Well, now, in 1992, the builder wrote him to say that his name
had come to the top of the list; what kind of instrument would he like?
 
I asked the man if the builder was Martin Skowroneck, to which he was
thunderstruck!  I told him I didn't know anyone else who maintains a
15-year waiting list.  And apparently Herr Skowroneck is able to do just
that.
