Subject: James R. Anthony

Dear friends and colleagues:

It is with great sadness that I report to you all the
passing this morning
of James R. Anthony, author of French Baroque Music from
Beaujoyeulx to
Rameau (1974, rev. 1997), Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et
des Lettres, and
Professor Emeritus of Musicology at The University of
Arizona.

Jim died at home in Tucson, where for the last week he has
been surrounded
by family, friends, and music. He will sorely missed by all
of us who
benefited from his scholarly erudition, his wonderful sense
of humor, and
his generous spirit. A memorial service with music
requested by Jim is
planned for early May.
Requiescant [!] in pace.
