OK, this is sent via the web interface. No longer need I even activate a
mail program. 
The interface at list.uiowa.edu apparently gives me the option to attach
attachments, which I don't think is likely to be commonly useful, but I may
as well try it by attaching a small piece... (freely available through the
internet anyway).
