thanks for spinning them for me. We're mostly on one track here. I tried to
apply condensed talk/think, but maybe it sounds simplistic like that. Can't
be helped now.
Of course taste can be developed etc. along a thousand ways, after the
imitation phase. My point is, what is already in the box (taste, background,
whatever) cannot be divorced from anything else one accumulates later on.
And yes, historical information, in my life, is a great help for inspiration
- that's exactly what I like about it. Some use it as a heap of rules to
satisfy their preaching urges instead - I don't really like that. (Taruskin
accuses the rule-adherers of a lack of courage; maybe he goes a little far
here).

I played one of them in 2 versions for Leonhardt, 1 as written, and 2 in a
three-ified version (I had to write that down, btw.). As is typical, he was
benevolent about this experiment, but didn't elaborate on what he thought.
