Where did the idea of the standard Ruckers harpsichord decoration
(faux-marble between two gray bands) come from? Grant O'Brien says these
two gray bands imitate "iron". But why or where else would marble be
associated with iron? Do we know of any other objects with similar
decorations - imitation or real? I see nothing more about this in GOB's
book, nor in Sheridan Germann's study on harpsichord decoration (in The
Historical Harpsichord). Is there any other literature on the question?

Thanks.

Dennis
