Hi folks!

With the hindsight of unavoidable slowdown in production caused by my being
unexpectedly hauled off to the hospital in August, I think I can see both sides
now.

Firstly, as Owen said, there's late and LATE. I have always tried to promise
a delivery time allowing for the sometimes unavoidable flubs that can occur,
and thankfully have, so far, not exceeded that time. But, this time, because
of the length of time needed for me to recuperate, I shall be cutting the time
rather fine on my next delivery, and I _may_ be late, though I will do everything
in my power to avoid that. But one thing I must say is that I would never
allow some institutional chair-warming pen pusher (with no knowledge of the
actual process of making a harpsichord) to trap me into a contract such as
described by Paul.

On the other hand, I can also see an institution tying down a maker who is
notorious for late deliveries. In my time I have encountered makers whose instrument
s were excellent, but who were devoid of any business-sense whatever, and blithely
promised deliveries they had no possibility (or intention) of fulfilling. Indeed,
these people are the ones responsible for the widely disseminated delivery
horror stories that make colleges suspicious of all of us!

So instead of sitting here, I ought to be out bending a bentside that must
be done today!!!!

Best! (from unseasonably warm and wet southern Virginia)
