I have recceived from the British Library's 'Ethos' site a download of
O'Brien, G.G., "Ruckers : A harpsichord and virginal building tradition",
University of Edinburgh, 1983, 3 vols: Thesis (Ph.D.), EThOS Persistent ID #
uk.bl.ethos.375813. I ordered a copy at the end of Febuary; the
digitilization process is now finished and can be down loaded by anyone upon
request.
I have not checked to see to what degree the content is different, if any,
from the published book (other than the typewritten format), however the
thesis copy of the illustrations are in most cases vastly clearer that the
original August 1990 hardback printing of the book, and I presume therefore
better by that much again over the June 2008 paperback's illustrations. I
suspect that many of the 1990 book's illustrations may in fact be copied
from the thesis.
The down load is free...unbound, soft and hardbound paper copies can be
ordered for modest cost as an alternative to electronic delivery.
Access by going to http://ethos.bl.uk/Home and enter -- Ruckers -- as the
search term. To down load you must register (no charge) if you are not now a
registered user.
