I have moved harpsichords hundreds of times, and have never witnessed
any damage caused by or influenced by the presence of a fallboard.
Regarding CB's assertion that a fallboard will transmit knocks from
the top to the bottom, well, so do the case walls. On the other hand,
I have seen, among other things, transposing spacers go missing and
keys broken or misaligned due to a lack of a fallboard. When I move
our small Italian harpsichord, I place a coreplast cap over the
keyboard end, under the cover, to protect the keyboard.
