I had great difficulties and much breakage before with heat bending,
because my bending iron had luthier proportions - ie a 3inch radius of
cuvature. Now I have a 17 inch radius of of curvature (a section of
Large steel pipe) which will give musch better heat distribution from
the woodfire in a big basket inderneath. Uncertain what sorts of
forming aids they might have had. With boats , i suppose the hull
framing elements can themselves be the bending form. Worthy of note
that Paul's submarine builder was the son of a cooper. What an amazing
museum - the building belonging to the same heritage as its contents

Til now I have not really taken note of these more substantial bridges.
considerable variety in the treble - according to the berlin catalogue,
for instance, the JCFleisher is higher than wide (17&14) in contrast to
the Donzelague's 12&16

re Lepanto, and the galleys as floatting gun platforms, the naval
historian John Guilmartin says the greatest expense with galley warfare
was the highly skilled oarsmen ('biscuit' powered)
