Two ways:
 
1). If the transposing is done roughshod, the jacks' feet tear up the cloth on
various keys, and those jacks' dampers tend to fail.
 
2).  Uneven gluing of key end cloth can cause slight differences in the
distance from the cloth to the string among various keys; but it only takes a
slight difference to defeat a damper.
 
One solution:
 
Mount one or both keyframes on adjustment screws, so the entire keyboard can
be lowered slightly (and t hen brought back up when the transposition is
reversed.
