I have heard three Chickering (Dolmetsch) harpsichords and agree that they
sounded much better than Pleyels I have heard. These include the one
belonging to Blanche Winogron, who taught at New England Conservatory
in the 1960's, and one at Paine Hall, Harvard. The latter is veneered in
a black wood with white inlay banding, and the Chickering logo also
inlay, rather than the gold decal usually seen. This one is said to
be the first harpsichord Ralph Kirkpatrick ever encountered.
