Wow, Peter you're a genius. The Barton would make a super all purpose
'simple' English instrument. Its very pretty, and has a lot of Italian
Characteristics. Malcolms copy is very pretty too! What a lovely sounding
program. I wish I could be there, but I'm an Englishman stuck on the wrong
side of the Atlantic.

In view of Nick's enthusiasm for English harpsichords:
Anyone who is over this side of the pond and wants to hear an early English
harpsichord sound might be interested in Paul Simmonds's recital on 6 May
in Brighton (easy train journey from London): he will be playing Malcolm
Rose's copy of the only surviving harpsichord by Thomas Barton (1709) in a
programme of 'Georgian Harpsichord Music': works by Handel, Geminiani, A.
Young, I. Worgan, R. Jones and T. Arne.
3 pm in the Unitarian Church, New Road, Brighton, part of the Brighton
Festival, tickets +44 (0)1273 709709.
