> The program ..., which was presented on "All Saints Day," included two creative improvisations on hymns "For All the Saints" and "Amazing Grace". The strong improvisation on the first hymn included a short burst of "When the Saints Go Marching In," which is actually the inversion of the beginning of "For All the Saints." The effective improvisation on the second hymn began with the organ imitating bagpipes and the right hand playing rapidly the beginning of "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring," which then melted into perfect fifth chords in a pentatonic scale on the harpsichord stop to honor the Chinatown locale.

Hmmm... Reminds me of my Reformation Day arrangement of
"Ein' Feste Berg." It quotes "Salve Regina," "Bringing in
the Sheaves" and "When Irish Eyes are Smiling" -- and is
arranged for Hammond Chord Organ, Trautonium, Steel drums,
Electric Floor Polisher, Rexall Foot Massager, Cappezio
Tapless Tap Shoes, and the Happy Vales Senior Citizen Bedpan
& Denture Rhythm Band.

And I'm not even the "world's greatest" nor "most
sought-after" concert organist. Gee. Imagine that. Surely
the world is just waiting to discover me...

I never could have dealt with bagpipes, however; as they
bring to mind dark memories of a certain former List member
and his lovely wife (but probable Lurkers: "Hi, dearies!")
who shall remain nameless to protect the innocent [ME] ...

THEN... Just when we tho't we'd read it all...:

> If the Erben organ were actually restored to original condition, it would provide a rare example of historic organ-building, although its actual use would be of quite limited value. <

WOW. I just felt the collective blood pressure of this list
explode off the sphygmomanometer with THAT terse
declaration!
