A friend associated with a local college asked me about the technical
feasability of the following: the college will be rebuilding a water damaged
pipe organ of about 48 ranks. But he asked if it was possible to ALSO have
theatre organ voices on the organ, as well as features such as tuned
percussions, second touch, etc.

Of course, this could be done with electronics or real pipes, but the issue
as I see it is STOP CONTROLS! Since the main use of the instrument would be
the classical side, a 3 manual drawknob console is required. I don't think
LCD drawknob caps are practical at this time! And since many visiting
artists will be using the organ, assigning theatre voices to standard
classical drawknobs blindly would likely not be acceptable.

So how could the theatre organ voices be controlled in a practical manner?
Would it be possible to add one (or two) rows of stop tabs above the coupler
rail on a standard console? Has anyone ever heard of such an arrangement?

Any other practical suggestions?

Thanks for any ideas.
