Hey Bob and list:
Keeping this short, as per instructions for this list:
Sonata in G, Op. 28:
First Movement: I've used this as an Opening Voluntary on Festival
Sundays.
Third Movement: fine piece, though I decided to simplify the
textures in the B section so as to give the melody to a flute solo.
The second sonata (Op. 87a): very well suited to the organ.
"Meditation from The Light of Life": Epiphany OV.
William McVicar has transcribed the 5 "Pomp and Circumstance" marches,
of which 1, 3, and 4 are particularly fine.
"Sospiri" ("Sigh"): if you like the Cello Concerto (or Mahler slow
movements), look at this piece.
"Sursum Corda": this is an early piece for strings, brass, and organ.
I used the Lemare edition, made a few cuts, and added some brass parts
(available from Kalmus) for an OV on Easter Sunday.
Elgar's music is always very well constructed, and the clear phrases and
intelligent sequences allow for frequent manual chances and the constant
addition or subtraction of stops. Just don't get the slow movements too
fast!
Best,
