It may well be that the use of the chimes springs from the
organ-and-orchestra version. I do not have my copy of the score at hand and
haven’t played it in at least a decade, does it mention the chimes?

ever played the work with chimes when the first theme moves to the Recit
manual with strings and celeste. Am I correct that no chimes existed on
most French organs of his time BUT that the might perhaps played the work
in USA using chimes? Or is there NO record of his doing so?
