Greetings, Piporg-L
The Arkansas (State) School for the Blind in Little Rock still has the
remains of their Kimball organ. 2m, maybe 10-15 rks or so
originally. This poor organ was mercilessly raped many years ago, and lost
at least most of its original console and all of its original action and
winding. (old chests electrocuted horribly) To add insult to injury, it
was moved from its original location somewhere to a short, squat, 'modern'
auditorium (with the approximate acoustic of a coat closet), where it was
installed freestanding in the center of a deep stage, completely behind a
large proscenium with many heavy layers of velvet curtains.
The installation, by itself, is a case-study in "How to Do Absolutely
Everything WRONG". . .
However, it is still there, and AFAIK is used once a year for their
graduation ceremonies. I've gotta go try to tune the reeds (horrible 70's
european "improvements") tomorrow. Sadly, it will probably be a wasted
effort, as any success I might accidentally have with them will likely be
gone again by the time the graduation actually happens in another week or
so. Sad, really. Very Sad.
