Many thanks, Malcolm!
Sean Rafferty, host of "In Tune" is one of the most genial and
cultivated hosts in the history of musical broadcasting. However long
the wait for the Mander feature, the time will not be wasted. Just last
Thursday he had James O'Donnell on just the day before his performance
of Handel's *Jeptha* at the Abbey. His questions and comments about
church/choral music couldn't have been more intelligent and probing.
J.O'D. was accompanying Mark Padmore in some solos from the oratorio on
piano. He wrote me just afterwards, "Transposing everything down a
semitone live on air is not the most relaxing of pastimes." It hadn't
dawned on me that, of course, they were doing it at "baroque pitch."
Yikes! But Sean Rafferty makes all this so rich. Can't wait to see what
he does with Mander organs.
