Dear all,
Paul Emmons and Joe Routon mention some of their collections of last verse
hymn harmonisations by composes of the era of Thiman and Bairstow.
Listers may like to know of the availability of some useful larger
compendiums of modern, playable, practical arrangements (in either with
pedal or manual only versions) published by Kevin Mayhew Music in England
[log in to unmask]
distributed in the US I think by
"Mel Bay Publications, Inc. Bay Publications, Inc." <[log in to unmask]>
These are:
1. Last Verse Extravaganza for organ - 200 frequently used hymns (2001)
ISBN 1 84003 651 6
2. Restrained last Verses for organ -165 frequently used hymns (2003)
ISBN 1 844417 161 2
Both are collections using a number of different composers, thus providing
some variety of style. Having said that, Mayhew has also published similar
one-composer volumes of last verse arrangements by Noel Rawsthorne.
I commend these to listers who are looking for some fresh material to
inspire their congregations in those last verses.
