Trinity XIII
9.30am High Mass:
(The Rev Fr Michael Parker)

Propers : Respice, Domine
Service : Messa a Quattro Voci (1641) - Monteverdi
Motet : Adoramus te, Christe - Viadana

Int : Ye servants of the Lord - Narenza
Grad :Take up thy cross, the Saviour said - Breslau
Off : O Jesus, I have promised - Wolvercote
Com : Adagio, from Concerto II in A minor - Vivaldi (arr J.S. Bach)
Thee we adore, O hidden Saviour thee - Adoro te devote
Rec : There is a land of pure delight - Beulah

Vivaldi (arr. J.S. Bach) : Allegro, from Concerto II in A minor BWV
593

Patchy. Tenors had a collective nervous breakdown in the Sanctus with
some predictable results. Trouble was, having got back on track they
were then nervous and sang most of the rest of the mass in a sort of
quasi falsetto. The curious thing was, it sounded quite authentic -
combined with the sops and altos, almost like three solo(ist)s over a
ground bass!

The 1st movement of the Bach Concerto has to be one of the most fun
things to play. And - for the purists - who says we shouldn't play
orchestral transcriptions? :)

Cheers
