Arthur LaMirande may have the best take on where. Maybe one of the weapons
companies in Springfield would pony up some cash. Far cheaper than moving
it elsewhere, and truer to its origin.
The underlying problem is that many (most?, nearly all?) people do not
perceive a need for preserving such instruments, and I suspect that
Springfield has had the same money problems (mainly the lack of it) that
many cities and towns have experienced. When that happens, public safety
and potholes, and whatever else the populace is hot for, tend to get first
priority.
Let's hope it does not get to the rummage sale stage, but if it did, I
can't think of a better place for a Steere than Texas.
