Thanks to Charlie for a colorful and useful description of a homemade
Zimbelstern. That's approximately how the first one we had at Saint John's Lutheran,
Altamont, was made, except that we welded a thin brass rod about 5 inches long
to the side of the 45 rpm turntable, and it hit the bells as it spun around.
The bells were suspended on brass wires bent in a crescent shape, above and
overhanging the edge of the turntable. It worked just fine.
Before that, I used a human Zimbel - a choir singer (boy or girl, doesn't
matter) holding a string of sleighbells. That works just fine, also.
