Alain's Intermezzo is a fine piece but is harder than hell. You could, of
course, give the solo line to a flutist, as Marie-Claire has done on
several occasions in the past and it works wonderfully well.
I am not aware that Alain wrote a piece called La fieuse -- but Marcel
Dupre did. It's the second movement of his Suite Bretonne. It is the
most difficult of the three movements in that Suite and is worth the hard
work that would go into playing it.
The other two movements are Berceuse and Les Cloches de Perros-Guirec.
Graham Steed tells a great story concerning the final movement.
Perros-Guirec is a small fishing town and, whilst touring the area, Steed
noticed that there was only one small church there and it had only one
bell.
He brought this up to Dupre some time later and, with a wry smile, Dupre
admitted, "I never heard ANY bells in Perros-Guirec.
