Hello all,
I am still basking in the glow of a most wonderful weekend spent in Omaha (of all places! where the temperature ranged between 4 and 23 degrees, not exactly what I am used to in Washington State). But the beauty and warmth, magnificence and glory of sight and sound of the new organ by Martin Pasi, kept me warm, as did the beauty of the Cathedral as well! I don't usually write reviews, especially of my own artists, but frankly I am really at a loss for words anyway, it was all so incredibly beautiful! This new instrument is without doubt a landmark instrument and will be for centuries to come. Robert Bates really understands an instrument like this, and his program, the first half of which was played on the meantone division, showed off all the myriad colors in all their beauty.
Much of the credit for this instrument goes to the extraordinary vision of the Cathedral Director of Music, Kevin Vogt.
If you ever get a chance to go to or through Omaha, don't miss it!
Penny
PS I enjoyed getting a chance to meet and chat with list member Heather Hernandez.
