Dear Group,
There seemed to be some confusion in my last post - somehow part of another
post got added to it. I have made some adjustments to my email arrangements,
which may have been the cause of the problem. The post was meant to say :
http://www.organsandorganistsonline.com/
We have added a recording of Bach's Fantasia in G minor made by PIPORG
member Jarle Fagerheim at the IV/58 J.H. Jorgensen organ in Bodo Cathedral,
Norway. This was recorded 2 years ago during a concert when Jarle was 12
years old. It was virtually his first concert appearance and he had learned
the piece in 5 days. There are one or one two slips, but this does not
detract from his achievement and he is another young player to watch. He
tells me he will be coming to the OHS convention in Buffalo later this year.
The links page has been revised, and is now much easier to
navigate. Organ Builders have been listed by country, other categories
clearly defined - PIPORG has a link, of course! - and the members websites
moved to the main area. We have now had almost 1000 hits in three weeks, so
if you go there now it will probably have hit the 1000 mark. The downloads
area alone has had 365 hits in the last 4 days. Thank you for your support.
Another point hit my eye on reading the list - the visit of Christ Church,
Cambridge Choir to Philadelphia under their director Dr David Rowland. I had
the pleasure of being David Rowland's first organ teacher when he was 12
years old in Farnham, Surrey. He showed outstanding talent at an early age,
passing the A R C M performers diploma at the age of 13. One particular
incident sticks in my mind - he brought along Mulet's "Tu es Petra" and
asked if he could learn it. I thought it might be a bit too difficult for
him, but I have never discouraged my students from learning anything they
want - they will find out if they can cope or not. So I said yes, see how
you get on. he came along next week and gave a virtuoso performance of it. I
hope he won't mind my mentioning this! The rest is history, as they say
.....
