One thing which has not been mentioned in recent discussion of George's
old HIFI/Life records is the overdubbing. It seems like almost
everything about those records was faked! Along with the doctored photos
of the organ console, were the recording gimmicks. Everybody knew about
it--in fact, the later Dot records nearly all included some blurb like
"This recording features the *real* George Wright, without benefit of
overdubbing." The overdubbing is done very musically, and I'm sure GW
felt he was just using all the advantages of the recording medium to the
benefit of the music. (In a sense, it's no less "ethical" than the
massive editing done on most commercial recordings anyway.) Allen, or
anyone else--do you know any more about how/why this was done?
