In "The Diapason" for January, 1995 an article about a Redman Organ Co.
organ in Petersburg, VA mentions use of a duplex mechanical action slider
chest which allows Great ranks to be borrowed for the Pedal. The article
says, "Channel dividers allow this to be done without flap valves..."
Can anyone explain how the channel dividers work? Does the pallet cover
a separate opening for each pipe? I understand borrowing and unification
using flap valves, but what are "channel dividers?" If there is a
separate opening for each pipe, doesn't that negate the supposed
beneficial effect of a (large) channel to stabilize the wind and allow
interaction between pipes on the same channel?
