What "big name" pipe-organ builders entrust their work to a "local rep"
or depend on the "incumbent organist" to maintain their quality?

not a question of 'maintaining" quality, but both Moller and AEolian-Skinner
(both in latter years) used outside contractors (read 'area technical
representatives') to do installation work, which often was based on a percentage of
the sale price (7% in the case of Moller),. The intallers often did not have the
skills to do finish voicing (particularly the ones who did the Moller work in
my area!!!).
