There is a very sorry story concerning the installation of a Makin organ
in Christchurch Priory, Hampshire, UK.

There was a fine Compton organ in the priory until 1973. The then
organist, Geoffrey Tristram, was instrumental in abandoning the pipe
organ and installing a 4 manual Makin.

It is very difficult to understand how such a travesty could occur. I
have played it many times and even though it has been updated, it a
quite unworthy instrument.

Fortunately the Priory as part of its recent celebration of its 900th
birthday has decided to raise funds to reinstate and extend the original
instrument.

I appreciate that these circumstances have little in common with yours,
but I thought you may be interested.
