Ah, Sebastian, but sometimes these people (not necessarily organists, but
others expressing the same thought) ARE the ones purchasing organs.  It's
happened more than once in my own experience as an organ consultant that
someone on the organ committee has said that he or she can't tell the
difference.

I try to avoid that kind of statement by pre-empting it early on, advising the
group that there will be people in their congregation who can't tell the
difference --- but that those people should not be involved in the
decision-making, any more than decisions about stained glass or redecorating
should be made by people who are color-blind.
