In the Vierne Final to Symphony No. 1, is it still considered stylistically-correct to play the double-thirds sections completely legato, particularly in a drier acoustic? In measures 67-76, I've worked out legato fingering and mostly avoiding substitution, but, in the right hand, it seems very awkward to use the fingering I've devised, and I end up with some tension in the hand and wrist after working on it. I do have quite small hands, but I'm not sure if that has any bearing.
I've fingered the right-hand at measure 69 as:
4 5 4 3 4
2 1 2 1 2
And then the right-hand in measures 73-74 as:
4 3 4 3 4 3 5 4 5 (4) 3
1 2 1 2 1 2 1 2 3-4 1 2
Thanks for any thoughts,
Gregg Bailey
