The book by J. Murray Barbour called Tuning and Temperment. DaCapo Press-New
York 1972 is very technical because it is a published dissertation. If you
can find the book the first few pages are a list of terms and a sort but
complete explanation in not too technical terms.

Thomas Donahue's book "A Guide to Musical Temperament" is an excellent book
on the topic and is available from OHS, the web site which is listed below.

is not a hyper-technical text and is eminently readable.
