Deon & List,
>1. A Chorale Prelude on Schmuecke dich, O liebe Seele, edited by
>Thalben-Ball and attributed to Bach (published by Bosworth & Co).
>This is delightful three-part writing, having a short introductory
>sinfonia (echoed in an attenuated coda) containing a highly
>ornamented working out of the chorale melody with an equally
>ornamented left hand counter melody.
> Can anyone supply some further information on this piece? Is it
>still attirbuted to Bach, or has more recent scholarship
>confirmed/debunked that attribution?
It's by Homilius: no. 29 in the edition of the Homilius chorale preludes,
edited by Christop Albrecht, Edition Breitkopf no. 8541.
The same piece is also found in a small collection of Homilius chorales: 8
Choralbearbeitungen, edited by dr. Ewald Kooiman, Incognita Organo vol. 27,
Harmonia Uitgave HU 3571.
The chorale prelude ever has been in the official Bach edition. I have a
Kalmus Study Score no. 915 (seems to be reprinted from an old Bach
Gesellschaft edition) where this Schmucke dich is found at page 181.
